Perioperative nursing international Three Minute Thesis Competition
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition celebrates the outstanding perioperative nursing research undertaken by higher degree research (HDR) students globally. It challenges participants to present their research and its significance in just three minutes, using language appropriate for a non-specialist audience.
This competition helps HDR students develop vital academic, presentation and research communication skills – essential capabilities for sharing evidence and influencing practice across disciplines and professions.

Prizes
The winner will receive complimentary full registration to the 2026 ACORN Conference. In addition, the winner and runners-up will be awarded a certificate of achievement and formally recognised on the Journal of Perioperative Nursing website.
Eligibility criteria
Competition submissions must be about a research topic that is relevant to perioperative nursing practice. Entrants must:
- be a confirmed HDR student (Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy or Professional Doctorate)
- be enrolled at the time of submitting the competition entry
- identify as a perioperative nurse (from any country).
How to apply
- Complete the application form.
- Submit a pre-recorded, three-minute video presentation.
